Oh nooooo.....
James has succumbed to the terrible
My Chemical Romance disease!
On Sunday August 7th 2005, when discussing a CD compilation, he said...
(hey, it could be worse, at least there's no My Chemical Romance ;)
(I have no idea who My Chemical Romance are by the way, they just seem to be mentioned any time anyone's picking on Emos so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon :)
(Not that I have anything against Emos - ten years younger and I might be one)And now he thinks they sound like
Queen!
November 23rd 2006...
In fact the only bit that doesn't seem to have been ripped wholesale from Queen is the "We'll carry on! We'll carry o-o-onnn!" bit in the chorus. If it didn't all sound so fantastic Freddy Mercury would be rolling in his grave.Oh dear... I have to say at no point did I think
Welcome to the Black Parade sounded like
Queen.
And yet... according to Wikipedia...
Gerard has cited Queen as a major influence. The tonality of the guitar orchestration in "Welcome to the Black Parade," allegedly resembles the timbral qualities of the guitar orchestration done by Queen guitarist Brian May, especially in "It's a Hard Life" on the Queen album The Works. The opening and closing sections of "Welcome to the Black Parade" are highly reminiscent of the Queen song "Innuendo", the title track of the Queen album, and the Suit of Lights song, "Goodbye Silk City".I like the use of 'allegedly' in that..! Anyway, personally I think to compare a band like
MCR with
Queen is, well, a terrible thing to do!
Queen are legendary, and I think the only cover I've enjoyed was
Electric Six's
version of "Radio Ga Ga".
The thing that concerns me most about comparing
MCR with
Queen is that approximately 2 minutes into
WTTBP it stops being, well, good, and turns into
Busted. Now come on, how can any band copy
Queen AND
Busted? If you had the taste to want to be
Queen, you wouldn't do that, would you?
Would you..?
