Thursday, June 28

Just walked home via the canal, from Frog Island to Aylestone Meadows. It was a lovely sunny day, seems slightly overcast now. I thought I should make the most of it before it rains again. At one point I almost walked along the River Soar instead of the canal, but since the path was underwater I decided against it. I have made a Google Map of my walk (cool!).

On my walk I saw:

The deer was the most exciting thing, though herons are always impressive. The deer was swimming in the canal, being chased by a flock of ducks. It managed to climb up the bank and get into Castle Park, so maybe there's more than one deer lurking in there...

(Apparently most people think it unlikely that I saw a deer... so what was it?)

Apart from my walk, I haven't done much that's incredibly exciting. I did go to Peterborough yesterday, for a work thing, but didn't get to see much of the city. Nice and easy to get there from Leicester though. Hooray!

Sunday, June 24

John has gone away again, it was nice to see him though. I didn't really get much of a chance to talk to him, oddly! We seemed to be busy doing activities and not actually talking about stuff. Drat... He seems a bit ill, very gungy in his head, I wish they could find out what's wrong with him. His sinus operation hasn't really helped.

It was a bit of a busy week. Thursday evening John came, so we spent the evening watching episodes of The Pretender and getting story wheels ready for Hullabaloo.

Friday evening it was Hullabaloo, then we went to Las Iguanas for Mexican food. It was okay but the food wasn't amazing, and it was hard to talk because the music was fairly loud. Matt, Rachel, John, Ali, Rob and I all went, we're all going on holiday together soon (yay!).

Saturday we went to Enderby Library, to the grand opening (it's been refurbished). We had special cake and saw 'The King of Leicester', as John called him. (He wasn't actually the King of Leicester). Then we went to Co-op and bought some food, ate lunch, watched some A-Team, and took Ali's dog Rex for a walk. We watched 16 Blocks, which was good, then I helped John make a pie for dinner that had chicken, bacon, cider and apples in it, it was nice. Ali came round and helped us eat it, and we watched Pick of Destiny, but it wasn't as good as 16 Blocks... We also managed to fit in watching a Red Hot Chili Peppers concert DVD.

Today we went to church, ate lunch, then went for a walk in Ratby. It didn't rain, which was good, and it was alright, can't say I was really in the mood. And so that concludes my description of the action packed last few days. I kind of wish I had had more time to just talk to John... ho hum.

We discovered something rather terrible about where we're trying to grow things at the bottom of the garden - it has some sort of structure underneath the turf! Like things weren't hard enough anyway! I've been doing pathetic archaeology trying to figure out how big it is, and it looks even bigger than I first thought. Hum. We managed to find enough deep earth to plant some lettuces and parsnips, but it's not looking good. Why are things always so difficult? ;)

We've been having a WAR against the slugs and snails, too, the garden is filling up with patches of exploded slug slime and snail shells. Mwahahaha.

There have been two quite exciting Grands Prix the last couple of weeks, both of which Lewis Hamilton won. Though that's not why I thought they were exciting. The US GP is generally pretty good fun, makes a change to have part of an oval track in an F1 circuit. I wonder whether they could hold a GP at Rockingham Speedway? That might be fun.

I'm rambling a bit, just thought I should post something even if it's not something anyone wants to read particularly!

We did stuff with our friend Incredibly Tall Mark on Sunday, that was fun, don't see him that much these days. And my brother John's coming to visit again, possibly tomorrow, yay!

I know my Last FM thing in the sidebar isn't working but I haven't had my iTunes stuff put back on this PC since 'the disaster'. At some point I will get around to it, I haven't been playing much lately though either. I generally listen to stuff while I'm playing WoW. But no time for playing...

Oh well, I suppose I should do something constructive. I'm supposed to be drawing pictures of Jesus (for Hullabaloo, not for some weird reason). Bye for now!

Saturday, June 2

Last weekend we went to Southend to watch the airshow, but in the end it was raining so much we didn't actually go down the seafront to watch it! It was nice to go back to Essex and see Mum and Dad though, and John, though we see him a fair bit these days anyway (woo!). I also met up with an old school friend called Angela, which was fun! I was a bit nervous since I hadn't seen her for ten years or so but it went pretty well. I think it did, anyway...

I'm in a book! It's this book, I get thanked at the end. I was only doing my job but maybe I went a bit further with things than I needed to to fulfill my obligations, who knows? He was a nice man, it was fun looking at things for him. He sent me a copy of his book so I will have to read it!

Hum, what else... it was a lovely sunny day today so we did lots of gardening. We've made a bed at the bottom of the garden and planted runner beans up a wigwam, and I planted some sunflowers in a big pot. Also moved a lot of seedlings into trays divided into separate bits since they were just in normal seed trays growing together. There was a lot of slate and glass and brick coming out of the land at the bottom of the garden, bit of a rubbish dump. It's almost like doing archaeology in my own garden...

I am oddly excited by the new eBay companion for Firefox, it's brilliant! I'm testing it by bidding on a Dead Zone Series 4 box set. I can surf around and it's sitting there as a sidebar, monitoring how things are going. Cool! :D

He has a bowler hat, go figure.
